In 1977, the Rheology Research Center hosted The Society of Rheology for its 48th Annual Meeting. Professors Lodge and Bird co-chaired the Local Arrangements Committee. Professor William Graessley and L.V. Cancio co-chaired the Technical Program Committee. This meeting was held October 23-27, 1977 at the Wisconsin Center (now the Pyle Center, 702 Langdon Street).

The meeting attracted about 100 registrants, lodged at the Wisconsin Center Guest House and at the Town and Campus Motel. Professor Art Metzner received the Bingham Medal. Professor Guy Berry and RRC member Professor Charles Curtiss contributed plenary lectures. This was the second time the RRC hosted an annual meeting of The Society of Rheology.
