The Education Committee of The Society of Rheology commissioned Professors Morrison and Giacomin to develop a short course for beginning rheologists. Launched in 2005 at the 76th Annual Meeting of The Society of Rheology, this course is meant for those with little or no background in rheology or rheological modeling. The course content is based on the text Understanding Rheology by Faith Morrison (Oxford, 2001), which may be ordered at a discount at the time of registration for delivery at the short course.
Beginning Rheology links rheological modeling with industrial applications. The course is designed for those with a bachelor's degree in a technical discipline or equivalent. Beginning Rheology is especially helpful to the rheologically unitiated who find themselves thrust into projects revolving around rheology. The course is equally useful to numerical analysts employing software (such as T-SIM or POLYFLOW) incorporating sophisticated rheological constitutive equations.
Beginning Rheology can be taught on-site in industrial settings and can be tailored to specific industrial needs. The course will also be offered every Fall, on-campus at the Rheology Research Center of the University of Wisconsin in Madison, Wisconsin. The course is normally scheduled for the Thursday and Friday immediately preceding the Annual Meeting of The Society of Rheology.
Beginning Rheology combines Professor Morrison's expertise on rheological property measurement and interpretation with Professor Giacomin's expertise on the connections between rheological properties and processing.
